Isn't it ironic that unbridled free enterprise and competition is touted as the solution to bad design decisions and poor quality products (at least in the U.S.). This is one instance where that is not the case.

...and who from Boeing will make jail time for keeping secret that tiny insignificant detail? Sorry... naive question...

As much as people say competition is an inevitable good that comes out of capitalism, the free market naturally moves towards monopolies or singular entities with large marketshare because generally it costs way less for the companies and consumers.

Having to only train one pilot to fly two different planes is easier than learning 8. And it costs less for the airline

Why do we keep letting U.S. take advantage of the rest of the world. If this happened in U.S. and if the victims were American? It would have brought the company down.

In my personal opinion which more than likely would never happen is the CEO and everyone else that gave thr ok, should get fired and see criminal charges immediately, the FAA should have an internal investigation for not looking further into it than just taking Boeing's own certifications and again it'll never happen but I would have them scrap all 737 max 8 planes immediately. The worst part about it is that what ever they decide to do, we don't actually know what kind of planes we're risking our lives getting into. It's sad.

@4:28 "The pilots continued to fight with the MCAS" Continued?? Why? The battle with MCAS never should have happened. FAILURE #1 They diverted their attention away from FLYING THE AIRPLANE. If they had simply turned off electric pitch trim and concentrated on a KNOWN PITCH AND POWER SETTING, the crash would not have happened! NEVER deviate from basic aircraft control. Pitch trim was changing uncommanded. The only way that's possible is with the electric trim system. @23:22, They knew something was wrong with pitch trim, yet they allowed the problem to continue while wasting precious time consulting the manual. Many situations can and do occur that demand a purely instinctive and automatic response. This was one of those situations MCAS did not kill those people...the pilots did!

That is sad. Boeing probably didn’t expect this *MCAS* system to fail, and thus it came unexpectedly that the planes were crashing. Disappointed...

The code was probably ok, it was auto programmed to kick in on the basis of information from only one sensor aboard the aircraft, which is unheard of in this day & age. It should be done on the basis of 2 or 3 different sensors, but that would have delayed introduction of the new airliner. Criminal behavior at Boeing, and how did they ever think they could get by with it? Maybe Boeing is now run by a bunch of slick suits with new MBA's in their pockets instead of aircraft engineers like it was for years.

Is this the same company that designed and built the Jumbo and the Dreamliner?? Someone or some people in Boeing need to go to prison.

Is it true they didn't know about the MCAS? Or is it that they were so dependent on the computers they didn't know how to fly the the plane themselves w/o computer intervention. Something to think about and investigate.?

The autopilot is mostly used while the plane is stable and leveled at its cruising altitude so the pilots can relax a bit. Also you said they "wouldn't know how to fly the aircraft without computer intervention" when computers caused it in the first place.
